TEJOS Y ABEDULES DE CANENCIA / BIRCH TREES AND YEW TREES OF CANENCIA

      Existe en la cara norte del puerto de Canencia una concentración de abedules, tejos y acebos, árboles muy escasos en el Sistema Central. Sobreviven cerca de los arroyos a la sombra de grandes pinos, donde se crea un microclima favorable.


      In the north face of the Canencia mountain pass there is a considerable number of birch trees, yew trees and holly trees, which are very scarce in the Spanish Central System mountains. They thrive near brooks in the shade of giant pine trees, where conditions are favourable.

      Los tejos, aunque son mucho más ancianos, crecen bajo los enormes pinos, con un crecimiento mucho más rápido.

      The yew trees, even though they are much more ancient, grow under the giant pine trees, which grow much faster than them.

       Pronto encontramos un vetusto ejemplar: se trata del Tejo de la Senda, cuya edad se estima en unos 500 años. Debido a la extrema longevidad de estos árboles, -se puede decir que son casi inmortales- se les ha considerado como sagrados en muchas culturas Europeas.

      Soon we meet a very ancient yew: It´s called "El Tejo de la Senda", and it´s said to be about 500 years old. Due to their extreme logevity, -you may say they´re almost inmortal- they are considered as holy in many European cultures.

     Su impresionante tronco da la impresión de estar formado por múltiples árboles más delgados que se han unido en uno solo.

     Its impressive trunk looks as if it is formed by several thinner trees which have melted into one.

      Después de caminar por el espeso bosque encontramos otro ejemplar notable

      After walking in the deep forest we find another noteworthy yew tree.

     Algunos acebos alcanzan gran altura, en busca de la luz sin duda.

     Some holly trees grow really tall, surely searching for the sun light.

      Los años hacen que algunos troncos adquieran extrañas formas.

      The passing of time makes some trunks look odd.

      Los ancianos arboles, el intenso verde, el musgo y el olor a humedad nos transportan a un mundo lleno de paz y armonia, lejos del bullicio y el caos del mundo moderno. Un paseo muy recomendable
